Beaches
Long stretches of stunning dune-backed beaches are only a short walk away, complete with beachside restaurants serving fresh flavoursome seafood. Praia de Altura is the town beach, also known as Praia da Alagoa, and sits between Praia Verde and Praia da Lota. On cooler days and evenings you can walk for miles along these unspoilt beaches.

Nature Reserve
Sited between Vila Real and the fortified town of Castro Marim is the Reserva Natural do Sapal de Castro Marim This 2,000-hectare reserve is an area of wetlands and salt marches providing excellent conditions for over 150 species of resident and migratory birdlife, including flamingos, redshanks, storks and avocets. There are tracks and trails ideal for walking or cycling and it can be easily reached using the N125 coastal road or the A22 motorway.
