About O Grove

Outdoor Activities

You’ll find no shortage of options in O Grove for daytime activities in the great outdoors. Having once been an island, O Grove is almost completely surrounded by water and the natural coves and beaches around the headland are perfect for exploring. Being a maritime town there are a number of boat trips around the impressive coastline where you can see the friendly fishermen tending to their mussel farms and heading out to sea to pick up the day's catch.

There are pleasant coastal walks to be taken and viewpoints to discover where you can admire the views out to sea, across the leafy mountains or of the islands in the horizon.

Also on offer in O Grove are activities such as paintballing, golfing, watersports and the surf school.

Eating Out

The port area of O Grove is home to a variety of restaurants, most offering fresh seafood caught by the local fishermen as well as traditional Galician dishes and tapas. Some lovely views out to sea can be enjoyed from the terraces of the restaurants nearest the port.

Along the backs of most of O Grove’s beaches you can find restaurants and bars which range from fine dining to laid back beach bars and occasionally live music in the summer months.

Shopping & Markets

There is a selection of large supermarkets in O Grove where you can find anything you may need. Most supermarkets are closed on Sundays but do stay open late into the night the rest of the week.

In the port area you will find the municipal market (Mercado Municipal) selling locally sourced, fresh produce. This is a great place to wander around and mingle with the locals and support local tradespeople in the community. Fresh fish and seafood can be bought here as well as meat, fruit and vegetables, cheeses and freshly baked bread.

The Beaches

O Grove’s coastal fringe is home to 10km of beaches, both secluded little coves with warm waters from the Arousa estuary, and large sandy beaches open to the Atlantic. Several beaches in O Grove have been awarded the blue flag for excellence.

At the larger, sandy beaches there are centres for water sports, restaurants and bars and shops and amenities. To escape the crowds head to the smaller coves and enjoy the warm waters and secluded feel of these remote, peaceful spots.
