A gorgeous old stone Mas with 12m pool, pool house with kitchen and within walking distance of the small village of Saint Antonin-du-Var. Mas Vignes is a picture-perfect spot nestling amidst the Côtes de Provence vineyards.

We were thrilled to add Mas Vignes to our Provence portfolio suitable for large families looking for somewhere special to escape. There are five ensuite bedrooms with air conditioning over three floors in an old stone building that has been lovingly modernised and adapted over the years. The modern pool house and large pool are unquestionably where you will spend most of your time, nestled below the house and surrounded by lush planting with its own 10m boules area and table tennis. There are numerous terraces and relaxation areas around the 2-acre gardens as well as a gas barbecue and eating area which is easily accessed via steps from the kitchen.

Well thought out and decorated with style inside, the owners have retained the authenticity of this lovely stone building. There's a well-equipped kitchen, two comfortable living areas and a study for those that might need to do a little work whilst on holiday. The ground floor and first floor bedrooms offer tranquil views over the vineyards that surround Mas Vignes and three of the five spacious rooms also offer the flexibility of being configured as twin beds or doubles.

Nestling on the outskirts of St Antonin du Var (1km), the house is in a peaceful spot but with easy access to numerous Provençal sites of interest. St Antonin du Var has a small grocer selling fresh local vegetables grown in the fields below the village, a boulangerie, bistro and cafe, whilst the larger, medieval village of Lorgues (10km) has a much larger well attended Tuesday market and various restaurants to cater for most palates including a famous truffle restaurant and Michelin starred establishments. There are also another two well regarded restaurants within a few minutes’ drive of Mas Vignes. Tourtour (20km), known as the 'village in the sky', is charming whilst Entrecasteaux (10km) boasts a chateau and lovely gardens. Within 3km is an outdoor excursion centre with bikes for rent (including e-bikes) as well as canoe trips and climbing experiences in local gorges for the young and old. Lac Sainte-Croix (43km) to the north is a huge freshwater lake at the bottom of the Verdon Gorge where there are some pleasantly cool beaches with easy parking. The Valensole lavender plateau (70km) is also spectacular in July, and for beach lovers the closest one is either Sainte Maxime (60km) or Fréjus (57km). Two international airports Marseille and Nice are equidistant (109km).

Great Things to Do Near Mas Vignes

The Verdon Gorge

The dramatic scenery of the Gorges du Verdon is well worth taking time out to explore. The deepest gorge in France, with a turquoise river snaking along the bottom, the views are incredible the entire way, and those who like winding mountain roads are in for some fun driving! Stop for lunch by Lake Ste Croix at the beginning of the gorge, or at the nearby village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie which has a 12th century chapel to see and a ceramics museum. If you prefer a more energetic activity, you can go walking in the gorge, or kayaking or rafting on the river.

Abbaye du Thoronet

Just a few kilometres southwest of Lorgues, this Cistercian abbey is a listed national monument dating from the 12th century (although renovated in the 19th century). A tranquil setting in a wooded valley adds to the beauty of the building itself, with the cloisters and the chapel being particular highlights. A guided tour allows you to discover the history of the abbey.

Tour the local villages

Entrecasteaux, Carcès and Flayosc are some of the other neighbouring villages which are worth dipping into whilst exploring your local area, each offering their own interest and charm.

Get to know Lorgues

Make the short drive to Lorgues and take a leisurely wander round its typically Provencal streets, stopping for a coffee or lunch. Visit on a Tuesday to experience the weekly market, a flurry of activity and a melee of colour.

The village in the sky

- this is the nickname of the nearby village of Tourtour, due to its commanding hilltop position which affords it panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. Classed among the 'most beautiful villages of France', it is both delightful and interesting to explore, with its 12th and 16th century châteaux, its Romanesque churches, and a 16th century olive oil mill which is still used in the annual harvest and for the rest of the year is a working museum.

The Lac de Carcès

Enjoy a walk around this nearby lake taking in the peaceful and tranquil setting. Also fishing is allowed on the lake - ask at the tourist office for more details.

Wine tasting

The main economic activity of this area is wine production, music to the ears of wine lovers! There are plenty of opportunities to visit local vineyards for tastings (dégustations) but the Château de Berne is perhaps one of the most well known, set within 500 hectares, with a chateau and chapel dating back to the 18th century.

Beach life

If you fancy a family day at the beach, head to either Ste Maxime or St Raphaël (Fréjus). The former is perhaps a little more low-key and family oriented, but both are bustling Riviera towns with good amenities atmospheric harbour front cafés and restaurants.

Keep the family entertained

at the Aqualand water park in Sainte Maxime, or at 'Azur Park' at Port Grimaud with its various rides and attractions for all the family.

Cotignac cliff

Be amazed by the 260 ft high cliff which forms the backdrop of the village of Cotignac, and is riddled with caves. Walk along the special 'Promenade' to view the troglodyte homes, or attend the Festival du Rocher in July and August, which takes places in the theatre built into the village walls.
