An island of quintessential Greek charm widely celebrated as one of the most relaxing and laid back in the Ionian, Meganisi is a true delight. To step ashore here is to step inside a world far removed from the fast-paced hustle and bustle of everyday life.

One of only five properties located in a private enclave close to the lovely village of Spartohori, Pegasus is an appealing and comfortable holiday base. A thoughtful balance of space and facilities starts with the open plan living/dining area on the ground floor which is flanked on opposing sides by a double bedroom with en suite shower room and a twin bedroom with adjacent bathroom. French doors in the living area and in each bedroom provide convenient, direct access to the pool and sun terrace.

Upstairs, the good size double bedroom has an en suite shower room, a balcony and a separate terrace providing a choice of sun bathing spots as well as very attractive views of the sea and Greek mainland.

Externally, a shaded dining/seating area, large L-shaped swimming pool with family friendly Roman steps, and a spacious sun terrace with glimpses of the sea through the olive trees all make al fresco living a joy. In these alluring environs long lazy days are sure to drift by gently… in anticipation, perhaps, of a cooling aperitif before firing up the barbecue for dinner?

Home to one of the island’s finest and most expansive sea views, nearby Spartohori (750m) also has essential amenities that include a minimarket, bakery and archetypal local taverna with a more comprehensive choice and a good selection of waterside eateries found at Vathy (4.1km). Beaches are many, varied and easily accessed, the nearest being at Porto Spilia (1.9km) where there is also a minimarket, popular beach bar and café.

Great Things to Do Near Pegasus

Island hiking

There are many old footpaths that cross the island leading to secluded beaches, small settlements and little chapels.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch

... in the quaint harbour at Vathy where you will mingle with the locals and eat some of the best seafood. Idle hours can be spent watching the boats come and go.

Hire a boat

One of the best ways to see the island is by hiring a boat. You can explore the coastline and nearby islands including Skorpios, formerly home to the famous Onassis family.

Spend the day at the beach

You are spoilt for choice here as the beaches all have crystal clear waters and are surrounded by lush greenery. They are rarely crowded, with some only accessed on foot or by boat.

Put your feet up!

Take advantage of the tranquillity and slow pace of Meganisi – switch off and relax, read a book, or just soak up the sun whilst lazing beside the glimmering waters of your private pool.

Take a trip to Lefkada

Catch the ferry to Nydri and browse around the shops, have a spot of lunch, or try something more energetic such as wakeboarding or waterskiiing.

Visit the Papanikolis Cave

This is the second largest cave in Greece, and its location halfway down the 'tail' of Meganisi can only be reached by boat. Once inside you will see crystal waters and a small beach. It also has historical significance, as during WWII a submarine hid in the water in this cave.

Feast of Sardines

This festival is held in the square of Vathi in July every year, and Sardines are the guest of honour! The celebrations include a main course of roasted fish and local wine, with the accompaniment of the traditional orchestra.

Church of Agios Ioannis

On the western side of the island is one of Meganisi's most important churches, Agios Ioannis Prodomos (St John the Baptist). It is believed to have been built before 1477 AD.

Go snorkelling

Don a mask and snorkel and marvel at the underwater world of rich marine life to be seen in the crystal clear waters of Meganisi's beaches.

Spend the evening in Spartochori

Within easy walking distance, the charming village of Spartochori is the perfect place to spend an evening enjoying a traditional Greek feast and sampling the Greek wine. Why not enjoy an Ouzo or two to end the evening?

Take a Trip to Ithaca

Just 14 nautical miles from Meganisi, Ithaca is a lovely island to go for the day to explore. Similar in size to Meganisi, the ferry takes passengers from Spilia to Ithaca in just one hour and forty five minutes. Ferries operated by Lefkada Palace take place in the high season only and generally just once per week.

Spot the Sunken Airplane!

Strolling along the waterfront in Vathy, keep a look out for the seaplane which lies in the shallow waters. Head to the eastern side, almost opposite the church and near a house with blue shutters just behind you, where you can see if just off the edge of the quay.
