Vodjnan Town
Vodjnan boasts the tallest church towner, the narrowest street and the longest street in Istria, in additional to an assortment of interesting buildings.
It produces some of the world’s best olive oils and also has a speciality dessert wine called Vin de Rose.
The church of St. Blaise curiously contains some sacred mummified bodies and artifacts and claims the largest collection of saintly relics outside of Rome.
Visit Pula
Pula can be reached by train from Vodnjan in only 20 minutes. Once there, the hop-on, hop-off bus will take you to the best sights including the Roman amphitheatre and Temple of Augustus, the Triumphal Arch of Sergei one of the old Roman gates and the Venetian Fortress, the Kastel, which houses the Historical Museum of Istria.
There are many performances and concerts held in the town in the summer and a night time light display held in the 19th century shipyard. Even the indoor market building is special to see, let alone the delicious food for sale.
Visit Fazana
The small fishing village of Fazana is only a 10-minute drive from Vodnjan. The quayside has picturesque Italianate buildings and several waterfront cafés and restaurants. Its signature dish is pilchards, tastiest when marinaded and served cold.
Fazana port has regular boat trips to the Brijuni national park and its islands. There are 250 species of birds and 700 species of plants on the island, as well as dinosaur footprints, Roman remains and a safari park where zebras and elephants are bred.
Street Art
Vodnjan is the street art capital of Croatia. Throughout the town hidden corners and the sides of buildings unexpectedly present amazing pieces of art designed by local and international street artists. The brilliant and colourful murals are inspired by many things, such as Science and Cosmology.
