Beaches
Being such a small island, visitors are never far from a beach! Katomeri has two beautiful coves which can be reached from the town on foot via un unmade track. Megalo Limonari is the largest of the two. Surrounded by shrubbery and greenery, the beach is characterised by its green colours and attracts many nature lovers. Mikro Limonari is located next to Megalo Limonari and is a small cove with clear waters and a narrow coastline. Although situated close to the town, these beaches rarely get crowded and offer the perfect place for relaxing moments.
Hiking
Meganisi is a walker’s paradise and one of the most popular pastimes on the island. There are many old footpaths crossing the island leading to tiny chapels, small settlements, secluded beaches and hilltops with stunning views to the sea and beyond. Perhaps the most spectacular and scenic route is to Cape Kefali, at the toe-tip of the long ‘leg’ of the island, which is only accessible by foot or boat. The best times for hiking are in the autumn and spring months when the weather is not so hot.
Exploring by boat
Another popular activity in Meganisi is hiring your own boat for the day or chartering a boat with a captain from the port of Vathy. As many of the island’s beaches cannot be accessed by road, this is the ideal way to discover more of the island and its beautiful coves, many of which are natural harbours ideal for boating.
