Nearby Towns
Samieira is almost equal distance from the large, historic city of Pontevedra and the seaside town of Sanxenxo. Pontevedra is a charming city to wander around and its centre is almost completely pedestrianised making it ideal for leisurely strolls whilst window shopping or sitting back and relaxing in one of the many cafes and watching the world go by. Numerous restaurants and bars are to be found in Pontevedra with something for everyone.
A visit to Sanxenxo is ideal for relaxing on the beach and perhaps sipping a cold cocktail or local beer in one of the beach bars which open in the summer months and offer refreshments and occasionally live music in the evenings. A number of restaurants can be found in the town and in the harbour, the Nautical Club offers boat excursions to enjoy.
Visiting the Cies Islands
The Galician Atlantic Maritime National Park can be seen on a clear day from the coastline around the Pontevedra estuary and can be visited by the public by boat from Cangas, Vigo or Baiona ports. The Cies Islands, which sit at the mouth of the Vigo estuary, are the most well-known of the islands and the beach which connects them, called Rodas Beach, was once voted the best beach in the world by the Guardian newspaper, making it a very popular place to visit. As well as stunning beaches, the islands offer an abundance of flora and fauna to be seen, hiking trails to follow and the Cies Islands also have a restaurant. During the boat journey to the islands you may be lucky enough to spot dolphins or tortoises in their natural habitat.
