One of the most picturesque and scenic of the gorgeous Ionian Islands Meganisi, just four nautical miles off the East coast of Lefkada, remains a world apart from the hustle and bustle of everyday life; this is an ideal spot for a truly relaxing escape in unspoilt natural surroundings.

Wonderfully positioned just above the island capital Vathi, Kallia is one of two equally gorgeous properties (sister villa, Stamatina, sits privately alongside) offering outstanding sea views over gently rolling hillsides, lush greenery and acres of cascading olive groves. With the coast and soaring peaks of mainland Greece on the right, celebrated island of Skorpios taking centre-stage and, to the left a swathe of Lefkada coastline backed by rugged Mount Stavrata, the breath-taking 270° panorama from pool and terraces is amongst the best in our Greek portfolio.

Thoughtfully appointed, this contemporarily styled, attractive home from home has a soothing décor of soft pastel shades, part-exposed stonework and vaulted wood-beamed ceilings. Sizeable glass doors on the open-plan ground level keep the interior fresh and bright while providing direct access to the sun terrace and private pool.

Tasteful furnishings, smart fixtures and quality appliances keep comfort levels high plus and the convenience of having a bedroom and a shower room on each floor means sharing families or individual couples can holiday together whist retaining their own space and privacy.

Dotted around Vathi’s pretty harbourside are waterside tavernas, shops and minimarkets just 2.5km away and it is only 3km to Spilia Beach where you will find a further minimarket and a popular beachside taverna. Almost all of Meganisi’s many other pretty cove beaches, which include the part-sanded Limonari and secluded hideaway of Fanari, can easily be reached by car in 5-15 minutes.

Great Things to Do Near Kallia

Church of Agios Ioannis

On the western side of the island is one of Meganisi's most important churches, Agios Ioannis Prodomos (St John the Baptist). It is believed to have been built before 1477 AD.

Put your feet up!

Take advantage of the tranquillity and slow pace of Meganisi – switch off and relax, read a book, or just soak up the sun whilst lazing beside the glimmering waters of your private pool.

Take a trip to Lefkada

Catch the ferry to Nydri and browse around the shops, have a spot of lunch, or try something more energetic such as wakeboarding or waterskiiing.

Feast of Sardines

This festival is held in the square of Vathi in July every year, and Sardines are the guest of honour! The celebrations include a main course of roasted fish and local wine, with the accompaniment of the traditional orchestra.

Spend the day at the beach

You are spoilt for choice here as the beaches all have crystal clear waters and are surrounded by lush greenery. They are rarely crowded, with some only accessed on foot or by boat.

Enjoy a leisurely lunch

... in the quaint harbour at Vathy where you will mingle with the locals and eat some of the best seafood. Idle hours can be spent watching the boats come and go.

Go snorkelling

Don a mask and snorkel and marvel at the underwater world of rich marine life to be seen in the crystal clear waters of Meganisi's beaches.

Island hiking

There are many old footpaths that cross the island leading to secluded beaches, small settlements and little chapels.

Hire a boat

One of the best ways to see the island is by hiring a boat. You can explore the coastline and nearby islands including Skorpios, formerly home to the famous Onassis family.

Visit the Papanikolis Cave

This is the second largest cave in Greece, and its location halfway down the 'tail' of Meganisi can only be reached by boat. Once inside you will see crystal waters and a small beach. It also has historical significance, as during WWII a submarine hid in the water in this cave.

Spot the Sunken Airplane!

Strolling along the waterfront in Vathy, keep a look out for the seaplane which lies in the shallow waters. Head to the eastern side, almost opposite the church and near a house with blue shutters just behind you, where you can see if just off the edge of the quay.

Take a Trip to Ithaca

Just 14 nautical miles from Meganisi, Ithaca is a lovely island to go for the day to explore. Similar in size to Meganisi, the ferry takes passengers from Spilia to Ithaca in just one hour and forty five minutes. Ferries operated by Lefkada Palace take place in the high season only and generally just once per week.
