Attractions in Brittany – Going wild on the Breton coast!

Most regions of the world are renowned for something and it could be argued that Brittany is renowned for its rocks! Compared to the rest of France, or anywhere else for that matter, Brittany has an extremely distinctive look, with much of its individuality being crafted from the region’s wild rock formations.

Attractions in Brittany must include the rock formations. Asides from their dramatic, jagged and imposing shapes, what makes Brittany’s rocks particularly distinctive is their colour, colours of rock that set the foundations for the names of two of Brittany’s most distinctive stretches of coastline – the Pink Granite Coast and the Emerald Coast

The Pink Granite Coast – Cote de Granit Rose

Stretching for more than 30 kilometres from Plestin-les Greves to Louannec, the Cote de Granit Rose enjoys a steady stream of year-round tourism mostly due to it unusual pink sand and rock formations. In fact so rare is this type of pink-coloured rock that it can only be found in two other places worldwide – China and Corsica.

Walking along this exhilaratingly wild and magnificently unique stretch of coast trying to make out animate objects from the rocks while being mesmerised by the mass of enormous pink rock contrasting vividly with the blue of the sea, it is easy to understand why the Pink Granite Coast remains one of Brittany’s top tourist destinations.

Paths running along the shoreline, invite walkers, horse riders and cyclists to explore this stunning stretch of coastline where churches, chateaux, fountains, archaeological remains and impressive country manors enables one to retrace the history and beauty of this truly unique corner of France.

The Emerald Coast

Equally as beautiful is Brittany’s Emerald Coast, which is the longest coastline in France and offers a spellbinding diversity of landscapes.

Like the Pink Granite Coast, the Emerald Coast lends its name to the fascinating hues of colour that radiate from the rocks and the sea. Turquoise water crashes dramatically on the striking rock compositions that glimmer in warm shades of orange, pink and yellow, a sublime combination that has inspired poets, artists and writers for centuries.

It is this delicate blend of unrivalled beauty, captivating history and surprising exotic animal and marine life that makes both the Pink Granite Coast and the Emerald Coast two of Brittany’s wildest treasures.
