There are many fabulous walks in the Pyrenees for all age groups and abilities, where walkers can temporarily take a peek through heaven’s door.

An easy Pyrenean walk

The pretty village of Loubens is just a quarter of an hour north of Foix and it is from here that a suggested walk starts and finishes. This two-hour walk in the Pyrenees is considered to be easy and is even suitable for children of around eight and upwards. The views of the mountains high soaring high above you are awesome, grand and compelling.

You embark on this beautiful family walk in the Pyrenees by taking the yellow marked path close to the cemetery and church. After half an hour of walking gently upwards you will come to a small road. Turn left here and follow the sign for “La Pech De Limouzy”. 200 metres further on you regain the yellow marked path and follow this to the top of the ridge.

Here you will enjoy fantastic views of famous mountains such as the Pic-du- Midi. Follow the yellow mountain bike signs downwards and after 40 minutes or so you will find yourself back in Loubens

La Chemin de la Liberte

This famous walk in the Pyrenees was an escape route to neutral Spain for fleeing Jews or allied airmen who had been shot down over France during the Second World War. The climb is serious and one must be prepared with a complete outfit of mountaineering equipment and clothing. The route is complex and hazardous and it is advisable to study a detailed route description before you set off.

Another word of warning if you are thinking about walking the La Chemin de la Liberte is that snow can fall regularly in June in the Pyrenees when you are above 2000 feet, augmenting both the beauty and the thrill of this incredible Pyrenees walk.
