Where is the best seafood in the world

Where is the best seafood in the world?

Where is the best seafood in the world? You would be hard pushed to find better in Galicia, for sure. Fresh is the way seafood should be and fresh is the way the Galicians’ like it.

Where is the best seafood in the world

You don’t have to go into a super-exclusive restaurant in Galicia to enjoy a meal of beautiful fresh seafood. On the contrary, it’s often the most unpretentious, inexpensive and authentic eateries in this unmatchable northern Spanish province that serve the freshest seafood.

This is why Galicia could be the place for the best seafood in the world!

Driving down Galicia’s sweeping coastline stopping at the likes of Finisterre, Outes and Muros, you can almost smell the sardines roasting on the barbecues on your arrival. If you like sardines than you will simply be in your element on Galicia’s coast, where huge sardines being barbequed on charcoal grills are a regular feature of the seafront. You get about five or six sardines in Galicia for nine euros and even though you’ll only pay six euros in Andalucia, the difference in the size and taste of the sardines is vast.

Put it this way, you certainly won’t still be hungry after eating half a dozen of Galician sardines straight from the grill! Serve these beauties simply with a slice of lemon and enjoy. The tinned sardines in the UK will seem like a distant painful dream from which you have finally awakened.

The people of Galicia take their seafood seriously. Out in the river estuaries you can see hundreds of mussel rafts, strategically positioned because the mergence of fresh water and sea water is absolutely perfect for the mussels to breed, grow and thrive. The fan shaped sea scallop or pilgrims shell are said to be sweeter than anywhere else in Spain. They may be eaten direct from the shell, uncooked with a squeeze of lemon or alternatively briskly cooked in some local wine whilst still in their shell.

Octopus is another popular dish in Galicia. The octopus is firstly beaten in order to soften it and is then cooked whole in oil, paprika and salt.

Galicia’s unique and sometimes secluded coastline provides many a crustacean with a perfect habitat, which is probably why the food from the sea here is so good and so plentiful. Where nature needs a helping hand – due to high demand – it gets one through the likes of the mussel rafts.

Galicia does, of course, have other types of great food such as pork, hams and beef, but many people feel that when you get half a chance in this densely populated world to eat beautiful fresh seafood, you must take it while you can.
