Why autumn can be the perfect time to discover the Algarve

The Algarve is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beach holiday destinations in Europe. Consequently this region of southern Portugal can get extremely busy, especially during peak season. To avoid the crowds and the incessant heat but to still enjoy good weather, the autumn can be the perfect time to experience the Algarve.

The Algarve

With fewer tourists, the Algarve’s lengthy stretches of soft golden sand are waiting to be explored at your leisure.

As well as there being significantly less people battling for a space on the beach and to see the region’s many fabulous sites, the temperature in the Algarve can still hover around the mid to even high 20s in October, meaning you can enjoy some glorious autumn sun without the oppressive heat of the summer.

October sport

The lower temperatures means the autumn is much more favourable for those wanting to take advantage of the Algarve’s top quality sports facilities. If you are going on holiday to southern Portugal to play tennis, golf, go cycling, running, or be involved with any type of sporting activity, the cooler climate of October can make sport on the Algarve even more enjoyable.

A haven of wildlife

For wildlife enthusiasts the autumn can be the perfect time to visit this part of Portugal. The beautiful and tranquil lagoons attract thousands of bird species, including White Storks, Greater Flamingos, Black-winged Stilts, Little Bitterns, Grey Plovers, Dunlins, amongst many, many more.

Cheaper flights

Another plus point of visiting the Algarve out of season is that flights can often be cheaper. Many of the airlines that fly into Faro will put on cheaper deals for flights in the autumn months.

Despite its more relaxed pace of life, there is still plenty to see and do on the Algarve during the autumn. Experiencing the golden sands of the shores of the Atlantic in southern Portugal is always a great experience, and none more so than in October.
